Guided Rides

The guided rides are offered as either half-day or full-day private bookings for adults and/or teenage children (age 14 years or above). My preferred max group size is 5 riders although do contact me if you have larger group and I will aim to accommodate.

Please note that it is essential that all riders have good basic cycling skills and that they are, at least, competent and confident riding bikes on roads. Being mountain biking beginners however, isn’t a problem and I regularly guide riders who are new to mountain biking and they have great fun!

You are welcome to bring your own mountain bike but if this isn’t possible, I have five high spec’ bikes for hire Choose from 2 electric MTBs, 2 analogue MTBs or 1 gravel bike - see Pricing page for bike info. Hire bikes are charged in addition to the guided ride and are not available on a bike-only basis.

The main focus of my rides is Mountain Biking but if 100% MTB isn’t your thing then I also offer Gravel Bike rides with a mix of on/off-road, canal paths and less climbing. Starting from my home (or from selected partner hotels), the guided ride booking options are:

  • Half day rides - take about 3.5 hours with either a morning booking at 9.30 am-1.00 pm or an afternoon booking at 2.00 pm-5.30 pm. A break for coffee/tea is included (drinks not provided)

  • Full day rides - take about 6 hours with a booking at 10.00 am-4.00 pm. A break for lunch is included (food not provided)

A typical half day route is 25-30 km with approx 500-600 m of ascent (less climbing for Gravel Bike routes) although I’ll adjust the route for the weather, the trail conditions and your riding experience. Full day rides add up to 50% more distance and ascent.

We’ll start by covering bike checks, ride safety and trail etiquette before we head off on the network of bridleways, woodland tracks, MTB single-track and minor roads.  Please note that the MTB routes include some rough terrain and some challenging climbs. As a guide, unless you are a regular MTB rider, used to hills, then I strongly recommend that you consider hiring an electric mountain bike as this will guarantee the fun factor!

Tim’s e-bike is a real game changer. I’m in my late 60’s and have definitely got my mountain biking mojo back. And despite living in the area for 30 years, I’ve been on trails with Tim that I never knew even existed!
